They play with blocks & balls – parents sit on benches: reading, talking, knitting(smart).

– the waiting area is expanded and replaces partly the former art-gallery. The cubo-derivat seems to ignore some major and basic achievements of the contemporary Art-discourses.

>freizeit<

In the apparent repetition of material and form Manfred Pernice overcomes his “own classical approach” and yet the actual act of the sculptor is at the forefront: By suggesting a playground in the room Pernice’s approach is site- and time specific.

Anyone who works with sculpture today is, following Pernice, dealing with the “questions of the day before yesterday.” Today, under an expanded concept of sculpture, also photography, film, video and painting are regarded as components in sculpture/installation as well as a reflexive practice concerning the showroom and discourses beyond that. What decisions were taken?

The artist’s embrace of provisional presentation of the works suggests an approach to memory and history.

With >freizeit<, Manfred Pernice turns LLS Paleis into a space of potentiality.

The exhibition constitutes a state of latency (vertraging).

Architecture has the most fragile place in collective memory, precisely because its presence is taken for granted.

Otium, a Latin abstract term, has a variety of meanings, including leisure time in which a person can enjoy eating, playing, resting, contemplation and academic endeavors. It sometimes, but not always, relates to a time in a person’s retirement after previous service to the public or private sector, opposing “active public life”. Otium can be a temporary time of leisure, that is sporadic. It can have intellectual, virtuous or immoral implications.

Man hätte sowieso ‘Freizeit’
